Cowrie shell with silver mounts, the enamel lid hand painted with a pastoral scene of men harvesting hay. Bilston C1770. NB: Cowrie shells were brought back from overseas and were a much coveted and expensive item in the 18th Century and were used to make boxes and ornaments for the aristocracy.
